| If the top breaks (from improper attachment) and one calls the insurance company the car will be a total loss. They will price out the whole convertible frame which will come in at about 8k-10k. This is the reason mine was totaled. I have since had my "center rails" repaired by Z1. They are made of pot metal and need to be brazed back together. It costs about 150 but they do a great job. My top even with new weather stripping leaks a bit as well. Its not a big deal because the car is a nice day car. I'll drive the truck when the weather goes to shit. Something else I wish I would have known: Because of the top cover, the front seat will not lean back as far as a normal coupe. This may not be an issue for most but for tall guys it can be a problem. If its just center rails, you'd be better off if they were still broken. Shitty repairs can cause more harm than good. One of mine was splinted with steel when I bought my car. When I had my top incident, because the center rail didn't give it ended up snapping the rear rail and causing more carnage. Realize this guy probably got a check for 5k from his insurance company and is trying to "double dip" by selling it. Factor all this in your offer if you make one.
